Trump voters’ personal responsibility

Unless you riot or engaged in treasonous sedition elections truly are caveat emptor, something which many Republican Trump voters are becoming acutely aware of as he strips back their rights along with those of minorities. Buyers remorse is nothing new, just as current UK voters about Brexit, but what is starkly being proven by the Trump regime is how quickly he has discarded his core voters and stuck by his billionaire backers. Politics has always been a curates egg, especially when democracies become polarised. Germany in 1933 is the classic example, but both the UK and US’s 1979 general election brought about sweeping changes which were underpinned by growing dissent and failing leadership. Trump’s turbocharged wrecking ball is destroying the foundations of his base, while leaving nothing behind for them to rebuilt from.

It should be easy to mock and chastise MAGA supporters for bringing the entire state down due to their gullibility and personal animus to the services which provide vital support. Yet, mockery only gets you so far. The MAGA cult has been unleashed, let of the chain, though there has been a strange quiet since inauguration day. A key difference between 1933 Germany and present day USA is that MAGA has been muzzled by the cacophony coming out of the Oval Office.
