Trans bodies are beautiful
For all the shit that trans folk get about their bodies, the one constant is that trans bodies are inherently objectified by society. Be it movies, television, social media, or news papers the one constant is that every time a trans woman or man appears they are inherently scrutinised, labelled, and treated as objects for deconstruction. It is never enough to be trans alone, we always have to be what other people project onto us. Yet, through it all trans bodies are inherently beautiful.
Ella Morgan, the first trans woman on Married at First Sight UK, is presented as a perfectly manicured blond bombshell, her looks the first and only thing the producers really want you to see about her. My first response to her was that she was vapid and vein, a woman artificially constructed for the camera. As soon as this though crossed my mind I forced myself to stop and assess why I saw her as such. Her looks are the main selling point, her beauty curated for the world to see, while her personality is cherry picked and edited. In the beauty without clear personality she is sold as a blond airhead, looks a double edged sword for viewers to judge her against. The other blond women on the show are variously shown as attempting to transcend their blond image, yet none have been shown to as looks obsessed as Ella. Being trans is indeed all about the looks according to the show, with little to how behind it.
