One of the founding principles of modern human rights conventions is the notion that genocide should never happen again. The unfortunate truth is that both cultural and physical genocides are globally still happening. As the spotlight falls on the trans community it is vital we remember that we need to stop every and all genocides at the earliest opportunity, first time, every time. When the trans community declares that there is a potential genocide happening to trans folk in certain countries it may appear hyperbolic, yet the reality is that laws are being weaponised again trans people globally. At what point do we say never again and make it clear that either you stand by our side as allies or get out of the way.

Exclusionary feminists argue that there is no genocide as trans folk are merely a figment of some gender ideology, a cult of male privilege seeking to colonise women’s spaces and rights. They and their allies have made draconian laws, enact policies demonising trans people, and seeking to eradicate trans identities from the public sphere. Helen Joyce has publicly called for the tapering of trans people in public and to prevent people from transitioning. Senior psychiatrists such as Zucker and Lawrence persist with the pernicious idea that autogynaphilia is a valid diagnosis instead of a hate crime against trans identities.
