If it steps like a goose, honks like a Goebbels and cozies up to fascists then its time to call a Nazi a Nazi. Gender critical believers have spent the last decade shilling a version of womanhood straight out of the National Socialist playbook, a point they dodge every time you raise the comparisons with them. Hitler and Goebbels spent better part of twenty years espousing an understanding of where women should be and what they should do with their bodies, namely home, hearth, and eight kids. The American far right white nationalist movement picked up the baton in the 1970s and 80s in response to the libralisation of women in the workplace, which in turn the first wave of gender critics ran with due to the entrenched neo-Catholic rhetoric underpinning the ideology. Fast forward to the 2010s and the same deranged notions that womanhood can be defined purely by a chromosome test and ovaries has clawed is way back from the grave the Russians flung Hitler’s charred corpse into.

It is ironic that women like Kelly Jay Keen and Maya Forstater have spent time, energy and treasure demanding women’s rights only for virtually the entire gender critical mob to support Donald Trump the moment he enforces two sexes via an executive degree. Trump is the arch misogynist, a puppet being played by the fascists underpinning Project 2025. Each gender critic who lauds Trumpian destruction of trans rights is aiding and abetting American fascism, which seeks to put women back in the kitchen and force them to be brood mares in their twisted version of white nationalist Americana. Fascism is an equal opportunities corrupter, and gender critics have been corrupted by their desire to force trans people from the public sphere.

Calling someone a Nazi has lost its semantic sting because literal Nazis have pretty much died off and it became a shorthand for vaguely right-wing values in online discourse. Now that neo-Nazis have slunk back into power on the back of the orange buffoon calling a Nazi a Nazi requires reclaiming and denouncing those who want to speed run the Third Reich. Right wing ideology thrives in chaos, thrives in dividing and conquering all those who fear some other element in society. Bonhoffer’s warning that first they came for started with first they came for the socialists, the Nazis political enemies. Trans people, Muslims…
