Danger Wilma Robinson!
One of the interesting things coming out of my jaunt through exclusionary feminist Twitter is the sheer amount of parroting involved. Like the Ralph Wiggums I’m in danger! Meme, the volume and vitriol one gets simply by being trans positive is astonishing. Yes, I know, many of you have been doing this for years and been getting the abuse, yet even an innocuous comment in support of trans kids is like a drop of blood in a shark tank. It has put a great many things in perspective for me, especially the level of anger and frustration on the trans activist side. Granted, I am still anti-violence, but this Twitter jaunt has shown me a whole other side of anti-trans rhetoric that the mainstream media simply is not showing.
Quelle surprise you might say, but the reality is that in my day-to-day life I live in a trans positive and trans inclusive atmosphere. Not a single one of my friends or acquaintances mutters a single anti-trans word around me, and while some might be confused by the whole thing, they at least ask politely. Which is why I am shocked by the level of opprobrium on Twitter and other social media platforms. Yes, I live a sheltered life, but I genuinely thought that gender critical beliefs were a tad more rational than they actually appear.
Which is why I am glad I have kept myself pseudo-anonymous on Twitter. I have started posting pics of myself around hockey to help…
