Building a trans underground railroad
Harriet Tubman knew about pain and suffering, understood what it was like for chattel slaves in the supposedly civilized south. As trans people have their rights revoked as if it were Nuremberg 1933 it is time to build an underground railroad that will both bring trans people to safety and provide them with support if they cannot. Eli Erlick began an HRT support service for trans youth whose medication was cut off, and other organisations have explicitly stated they will not abide by the Trump regime’s diktat to cut off trans support. There are plenty of trans related GoFundMes seeking help for both transition and relocation, with the urgency reaching new heights post-inauguration. All of these help a handful of people; what is necessary is an organised effort to overcome government overreach into trans lives, and dedicated resources to establish safe sanctuaries for trans people to exist in.
The Handmaid’s Tale develops the idea of an underground network to smuggle handmaids out of Gilliad into Canada, which at this point may well need to become a reality if the Trump administration proceeds to block trans people from gaining passports and official documentation.
