All-out assault on trans identities
There comes a point where the frog does realise it is being boiled alive and makes every effort to jump out of the pot. Trans people realised this nine years ago when Donald Trump was elected for the first time, his weaponizing of trans identities emboldening every gender critic to come out of the woodwork. The April 2025 UK Supreme Court decision to strip trans people of their legal sex at law led to rush to push back trans rights further than the decision outlined, rendering trans people in a parlous legal position under UK law. Globally this trend is becoming more visible as gender critical groups with deep financial pockets are agitating and making trans people persona non-grata.
In the all-out rush to demonise trans people gender critics and their allies forget that trans people and their allies make up the vast majority of the population. The pro-trans demonstrations far out-weighed the gender critical celebrations, and every time this is talked about on social media gender critics are being put in their place. Yet, governments including the United Kingdom’s are rushing to segregate out trans people from the general population based on imagined fears. It is not enough to point out that gender critical language draws directly from National Socialist and Jim Crow rhetoric, nor is it enough to point out that trans people have long been stigmatised; what seems to be finally…
